Hispanic Heritage Month celebration slated for Sept. 15

Hispanic Heritage Month celebration2 2011Atlantic City’s annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration — presented by La Casa Dominicana, the City of Atlantic City and Atlantic City Free Public Library — will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at Police and Firefighters Memorial Plaza (located between City Hall and the Main Library).
This free event will feature music and dance performances, plus special guest appearances.
Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15-Oct. 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
Sept. 15 marks the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on Sept. 16 and 18, respectively.
